2009 SEAFAIR ROYALTY REIGNS OVER SUMMER
Seafair King and Queen Serve their Seattle Community
For 60 years Seafair has crowned one man and one woman to reign over the city of Seattle and represent the Festival as King Neptune & Queen Alcyone. This outstanding couple is chosen based on their philanthropic contributions to the Puget Sound region and their ability to inspire the communities they live in. The couple greets visitors and residents, encouraging all to take part in Seafair festivities and celebrate the community spirit of greater Seattle to the fullest.
Seafair is delighted to once again present and honor two extremely commendable individuals.
Pat Cashman, King Neptune LX
Pat Cashman, a Pacific Northwest celebrity and wise-guy since his early years in Bend, Oregon is most known for his role as a cast member, writer, director, producer and editor on the long-running TV sketch program “Almost Live!” – a show that continues to air (in repeats) every week on Seattle’s KING TV and ran for two seasons in primetime on Comedy Central, as well as in syndication around the nation.
Over the years, Pat has made his mark as a TV and radio writer and personality on countless shows in Portland and Seattle. Most recently, Pat has been busy as an emcee and keynote speaker for corporate gatherings, employee seminars, awards banquets, charity fundraisers and other events. One thing’s for sure though, Pat’s antics and love for the Pacific Northwest and all it’s flavors will make him a great King Neptune in 2009.
Darlene Corkrum, Queen Alcyone X
Darlene S. Corkrum, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Virginia Mason Medical Center, is also a Pacific Northwest native. Darlene has been working to promote and support the health and well-being of all members of our community for many years. She has tirelessly contributed to many Puget Sound organizations, including currently serving as board chair for the Seattle Sports Commission, as president of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF Guild) and as a board member for the First Tee of Greater Seattle, in addition to volunteering for other community groups.
Darlene is also a major sports fan, cheering on the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Sounders FC, Seattle Mariners and Seattle Storm. Not content to sit on the sidelines, Darlene is an avid distance runner, having just completed her 13th marathon, the Vienna City Marathon on April 19, 2009. She is honored to serve as this year's Queen Alcoyne and help promote all that is amazing about the Puget Sound region.
The King and Queen will be featured as honored guests in the Alaska Airlines Torchlight Parade at Seafair. Throughout the Seafair Festival, they will perform several knighting ceremonies recognizing outstanding citizens in the Seattle area and provide support to Seafair’s Royalty Program, consisting of 2008 Miss Seafair Kristen Tateishi and the 2009 Seafair Scholarship Program for Women participants.
