Meet Kannon
Kannon is a four year old from Spokane, Washington that was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his kidney, otherwise known as Wilm's tumor. Three days after being diagnosed, Kannon was at Seattle Children's for surgery to remove the tumor along with his kidney. The procedure marked the beginning of a long recovery and a seven-month stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Seattle.

Kannon and his mom Kellee are very thankful for the House. "Being able to stay here means one less worry for us – and more time to focus on Kannon’s health,” says Kellee. “When we came here, Kannon was so sick that he couldn’t be in public. The services at the House meant we didn’t need to worry about going anywhere other than his appointments. And here, we live a block from the hospital, so we are always near his medical team. Without the Ronald McDonald House, none of this would be possible."

Kellee says living at the House and being around fellow patients has made Kannon more compassionate and enjoys the chance to play with his new friends. His treatment is going well and he hopes to go home soon.

As for his future, he has big plans. He looks forward to being a doctor and if that doesn’t work out, a tow truck driver! He has swept many of the nurses at Seattle Children’s off their feet with his cuteness and charm.

More Than a Place to Stay…

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Western Washington & Alaska owns and operates the Seattle Ronald McDonald House, which provides a caring “home-away-from-home” for families of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at nearby Seattle Children’s.

Our Families

Families who stay at the Seattle Ronald McDonald House live at least 45 miles away from Children’s Hospital. Most families come from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. Our goal is to keep families together during a difficult time and we often see patients, parents, siblings and extended family staying at the House for several months to more than a year

The House

The Ronald McDonald House is a warm and supportive home-away-from-home. It offers:

  • An individual room with a private bath
  • An immediate support system of other families staying at the House, dedicated staff members
    and community volunteers
  • A communal kitchen, dining facilities, pantry and laundry room.
  • Close proximity to Seattle Children’s
  • House activities including meals, movies, arts and crafts and local outings

Your Support Matters

In 2008 the Seattle Ronald McDonald House provided 28,012 nights of housing to 809 families.. While the cost per night to house a family is $80, the suggested payment is just $25 per night, however no one is ever turned away because of an inability to pay. Most families are struggling financially and more than half qualify for Medicaid. Your support is vital as it allows us to keep our doors open and accept all families.
